The unusual location of the Equator Village, which is south of the Zero Degree Latitude, in Gan at Addu Atoll which also the southernmost atoll, the resort derived its name because one needs to cross the equator to reach the resort. This resort is totally different from everything a tourist has experienced elsewhere in the Maldives.

You will have the most scenic flight from Male’ to reach Equator Village. The 90 minute will be unforgettable, as you will witness the atoll and islands from above, the blue ocean beneath you passing by is magnificent. You will also notice the islands are much larger than and Gan is one of the largest islands.

All the islands in Addu Atoll are connected via a series of causeways. The length of all the Addu islands comes up to approximately 18 kilometers. And this allows you a rare tourist opportunity to interact with locals; excursion is a must, in order for you to get an impression of the real way of life of Maldivians.

Gan was a RAF base until March 1976. British troops were situated here during the Second World War and there is a War Memorial built by the British on the island. Maradhoo Island close to Gan has a building that was used as an Armory by the British forces during the war.

The ‘British Loyalty’, a cargo ship was torpedoed by the Japanese during the War lies on the seabed inside the Atoll near Maradhoo. It is one of the best wreck dive sites in the Maldives, along with its unspoilt marine life and verdant dive points. The site is just a short Dhoni ride away from the resort therefore at a prime location for diving and snorkeling. Divers who expect an abundance of reef fish may be disappointed with Addu Atoll. But those who want to see wrecks, large manta rays, Sharks, turtles and generally big fish all year around, well be delighted with the diving.
